Songs We Sing (05.28.2017)
When we sing together, we are corporately singing the praises of our God. It’s a participatory activity. This “Songs We Sing” post is a weekly effort to help us better learn the songs we are singing — as well as to gather some small insight into what we are singing. If you’d like a copy of the songs listed, a link is provided (where available). For the services of May 28, 2017, Redemption bands At One (in Jasper) and The Loogootee Collective (in Loogootee) led music and we sang:
10,000 REASONS (BLESS THE LORD)
Written by Matt Redman and Jonas Myrin, 2011. Taken from Psalm 103, this song is a great song of adoration and praise. We have so many reasons (and eternity to do it) to praise God for His goodness toward us.
Buy “10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord)” by Matt Redman.
HIS MERCY IS MORE
Written by Matt Papa and Matt Boswell, 2016. God’s grace has cast our sin as far as the “east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12). Our sins, they are many, but God’s mercy is more. This is a great song of confession and assurance rolled into one.
Buy “His Mercy Is More” by Matt Papa.
YOUR GRACE IS ENOUGH
Written by Matt Maher, 2003. Chris Tomlin first popularized this song but Matt Maher is the original songwriter. This is taken from 2 Corinthians 12.
Buy “Your Grace Is Enough” by Matt Maher.

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS
Written by George Bennard, 1913. This slow song of lament was a great way to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice. Through the cross, we gain new life.
Download “The Old Rugged Cross (Live On Good Friday)” by Narrow Path.
BECAUSE HE LIVES
Written by Gloria Gaither and William J. Gaither, 1971. This song is a great declaration of faith in the face of the trials of the world. We can face uncertain days because Jesus has risen.
Buy “Because He Lives” by Crowder.
ALL BOW DOWN
Written by Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash; 2004. We’ve amped up Tomlin’s version quite a bit. The words, though, are what are important to this song. One day ‘every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.’
